Primary Purpose:

Assist in implementing childcare programs and assuring that each child is well cared for and safe. Provide routine care for infants and children in an instructional setting. 

Qualifications:

 Education/Certification:
High school diploma or hold a General Educational Development (GED) certificate
Child Development Associates, Preferred
CPR/ First Aid (including pediatric), required annually
24 hours of Professional Development (other required by Licensing and CISD), annually
Submit to/Pass all necessary background Checks
Follow Texas Department of Family and Protective Services Minimum Standards for Child Care Centers
 
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to read and verbally communicate with children, staff, and parents
Ability to work with groups of children in a positive manner
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
Effective organizational and communication skills
Ability to relate to children and adults with courtesy, respect, acceptance, compassion, and patience
 
Experience:
Prefer at least two years’ experience working with children in a state licensed facility. 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional Support
  1. Assist in planning, preparing materials, and implementing daily learning activities for children.
  2. Develop age appropriate activities for children in care including but not limited to reading to children and teaching simple painting, drawing, crafts, and songs.  Organize and maintain a pleasant and welcoming environment
  3. Observe and monitor children’s play activities.  Actively Monitor Children during outdoor, gym time – no sitting.
  4. Maintain a neat and orderly classroom including organizing and storing toys, materials, and personal items belonging to children.
  5. Clean and sanitize furniture, equipment, toys, and linens. (Daily /Weekly per licensing requirement)
  6. Assist with meals by serving children, ensuring safe handling of food for children. 
  7. Keep all necessary administrative records (Sign in/out, Accident reports, Food Program, etc.) Prepare required reports neat and timely manner.
Student Management
  1. Supervise children at all times and ensure safety and security of children in the classroom, on outings, and to and from outside play areas. (Know which children responsible for, including names and ages).
  2. Assist children with all daily activities and physical functions such as feeding, diapering, toileting, walking, and standing.
  3. Make Director aware of special needs or problems of individual students.  Make daily observations/log of the health of children, reporting conditions which require attention.
  4. Observe and document developmental progress of children.  
Safety
  1. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing.  (CISD Emergency Operations Procedure, Fire Drills, Weather Drills, Etc.)
  2. Follow district safety protocols and emergency protocols.  Report suspected abuse, neglect, and exploitation to DFPS as specified in the Texas Family Code, §261.101.
  3. Maintain current cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid certifications.
Other
  1. Maintain a pleasant, comfortable atmosphere for staff and children.  Relate to children with courtesy, respect, acceptance, and patience.
  2. Participate in staff development activities to improve job performance and meet state childcare licensing standards.  Attend staff meetings and special events as assigned.
  3. Demonstrate competency, good judgment, and self-control in the presence of children and when performing assigned responsibilities.
