Primary Purpose:

Work with school faculty and staff, students, parents, and community to provide support for campuses regarding students with emotional disabilities, learning disabilities, and cognitive disabilities. Assist with research validated behavioral interventions/practices.
 

Qualifications:

Knowledge of prevention and intervention strategies, including behavior management interventions and techniques
Knowledge of academic and/or behavior goal setting process and implementation
Knowledge of disabilities and research validated interventions and practices associated with autism, emotional disturbance, ADHD, etc. 
Ability to make recommendations based on the behavioral and mental health needs of students
 
Education/Certification:
Master’s degree 
 
Valid Texas State Board of Examiners License as an LPC
 
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of counseling procedures
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to instruct students and manage student behavior
Experience in writing behavior plans and making behavioral recommendations
PASS methodology training (preferred)
Restorative Practices training/knowledge 
 
Experience:
Three years’ experience in counseling
Training in behavioral and mental health needs of students
 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Guidance

1.       Develop functional behavior assessments and create behavior intervention plans (if warranted) for students in special education. 

2.       Provide training for campuses on the implementation of behavior plans, effectiveness of Manifestation Determination Reviews, effectiveness of PBIS findings of  the functional behavior assessments. 

3.       Participate in Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee to assist with appropriate placement and development of Individual Education Plans (IEP) for students according to district procedures.

4.       Consult with school staff regarding implementation of behavior intervention plans and in managing behaviorally disruptive students. 

5.       Provide staff development training in assigned schools to assist school personnel with understanding of students with emotional, social, and behavioral disturbances.

6.       Collaborate with campus leadership and supervisor to ensure district validity in programming with regard to district approved methodology. 

7.       Consult with teachers and relevant staff concerning the educational needs of students.

8.       Develop and maintain effective individual and group relationships with students and parents.

9.       Participate in professional development activities to improve skills related to job assignment.

10.   Provide professional development as necessary to support district goals and vision. 

11.   Provide program support to teachers and students in more restrictive settings.

12.   Perform other duties as assigned.

Counseling

13.   Counsel individual students and small groups.

14.   Provide social skills training utilizing research validated curriculum.

Consultation

15.   Consult parents, teachers, administrators, and other relevant people to enhance their work with students.

16.   Work with school and community personnel to bring together resources for students.

17.   Maintain a communication system that effectively collects and disseminates information to other professionals as appropriate.

18.   Develop and maintain positive working relationships with other school professionals and representatives of community resources.

19.   Use an effective referral process to assist students and others to use special programs and services.

Program Management

20.   Compile, maintain, and file all required physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents including SHARS billing.

Administration

21.   Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and board policy in guidance and counseling area.

22.   Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.

23.   Maintain a positive and effective relationship with supervisors.

24.   Communicate effectively with colleagues, students, and parents.

Professional

25.   Adhere to ethical and legal standards and model behavior that is professional, and responsible.

26.   Alternative methods of performing duties.
