Job Title: Special Education Instructional Specialist

Primary Purpose:
The Instruction & Intervention Specialist collaborates with and coaches assigned classroom teachers in planning for specific student learning outcomes and monitors implementation of district curriculum.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:
Master’s Degree in Education or closely related field from an accredited college or university recognized by the US Department of Education preferred
Texas Teaching Certification with required Special Education endorsement

Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Knowledge of State and Federal laws and regulations for students with disabilities
Knowledge of general education curriculum
Knowledge and understanding of Response to Intervention (RtI)
Knowledge and understanding of the expectations of STAAR assessment and strategies for promotion of student success
Knowledge of inclusive practices combined with general education curriculum
Skill in organizing/interpreting/analyzing data and applying concepts to resolve problems and develop solutions
Skill in team building
Skill in operating MS OFFICE (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher)
Ability to plan and provide prescriptive instruction aligned to district and campus goals
Ability to organize and manage multiple complex tasks simultaneously and independently to meet deadlines
Ability to maintain confidentiality of privileged and sensitive information
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and written utilizing tact and maintain effective working relationships with district personnel and campus administration

Experience:
Three years special education experience overseeing related programs and services with experience in general education and special education setting preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Collaborates with Special Education Coordinators and campus coaches to promote students with disabilities in the general education setting.  
2. Monitoring of academic programming through peer-reviewed research.
3. Monitor and provide coaching; modeling of all academic programming ensuring best practices and strategies are implemented with fidelity in all programs on the special education continuum.
4. Provide support and training for IEP goals, accommodations, modification, data tracking and progress monitoring.
5. Participate in department and team meetings.
 
Compliance and Accountability:
6. Assuring the enforcement of federal and state laws, local Board of Trustees’ policies, grant specifications, and personnel qualifications and certifications. 
7. Prepare for and participate in mediations and hearings.
8. Participate in risk analysis of student cases involving parent complaints.

11. Promote communication with teachers and campus leaders concerning the mission of the District’s RtI programs and Special education.

12. Comply with all applicable federal and state laws, Board of Education rules and local board policy and regulations.
13. Compile, maintain and file all reports and other documents as required.
14. Assure compliance with grant guidelines.

15. Maintains confidentiality of privileged and sensitive information when received and distributed to appropriate designees.
16. Demonstrates effective interpersonal skills through communications with parents, community, staff and school board members.
17. Attend professional growth activities to maintain awareness of current research and issues in mathematics, assessment, teacher education, professional development at the state level, including technology integrations.
18. Promotes a positive image that supports the mission of the district; works with all Curriculum & Instruction personnel to continually improve the professionalism of the total department.
19. Performs other duties as may be assigned.
