Job Description
Job Title: Director of Professional Learning 
FLSA Status: Exempt, 226 days
Reports to: Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning
Pay Grade: AD-107

Primary Purpose:
To develop, implement and support a comprehensive professional learning system for Belton ISD
that is designed in alignment with adult learning standards, to meet strategic priorities, addresses
identified needs, and fosters an ongoing culture of continuous improvement where each and every
employee feels valued, supported and challenged to grow.

Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
  • Master’s degree in Education, Educational Leadership, Curriculum and Instruction, or related field
  • Texas Teaching Certificate
  • Principal Certification Preferred
Experience:
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience instructional leadership or similar field within a PK-12 setting
  • Proven experience in the development and implementation of professional learning

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
  1. Design and oversee a system-wide professional learning framework aligned with district vision, values, beliefs and goals.
  2. Conduct needs analyses to determine professional learning priorities that drive student success.
  3. Lead collaborative efforts on the design and implementation of a comprehensive Professional Learning Plan for all staff.
  4. Design systems to provide role-like learning and support systems including New Teacher and New to Profession Academies.
  5. Collaborate to design, develop and implement systems to nurture leadership pipelines for roles such as aspiring teacher, assistant principal, principal, curriculum leaders, etc.
  6. Develop, lead and manage a diverse range of professional learning options including but not limited to collaborative learning structures, workshops, learning cohorts, coaching, committees, learning labs, online, etc.
  7. Communicate the goals, plans and progress district professional learning
  8. Coordinate with district departments to support development of professional learning plans.
  9. Develop and sustain a comprehensive communication plan to ensure system knowledge available professional learning experiences to school and district staff.
  10. Establish systems for tracking professional learning in alignment to goals and measuring its impact.
  11. Participate in the development of the district school calendar to ensure adequate professional learning time.
  12. Keeps abreast of innovative professional development techniques to provide the district with the highest quality of professional development activities.
  13. Identify and curate high-quality professional learning resources.
  14. Build partnerships to expand professional learning opportunities.
  15. Manage professional learning budget.
  16. Establish strong working relationships with school and district staff.
  17. Ensure compliance with federal and state mandates, local policy and regulation.
  18. Other duties as assigned.

  • May supervise professional learning staff

  • Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals
  • Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, twisting
  • Motion: Repetitive hand motions, frequent keyboarding and use of mouse
  • Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (under 15 pounds)
  • Environment: Frequent district wide travel; occasional statewide travel
