Primary Purpose:     
 
Perform professional accounting work involving compilation, consolidation, analysis and reporting of financial data. Assist the Director of Accounting in the administration of the district’s financial accounting and treasury operations.
 
Qualifications:           

Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, management, or related field, required

Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of accounting principles and practices Governmental accounting (GASB) knowledge
Knowledge of computerized accounting systems
Ability to use personal computer and software to develop spreadsheets, create and manipulate text documents
Proficient skills in Excel, Word, keyboarding and file maintenance
Ability to work with numbers in an accurate and rapid manner to meet established deadlines
Ability to analyze and interpret financial data, evaluate accounting problems, develop data, and recommend improved processes
Effective organizational, communication and interpersonal skills

Experience:
Two years accounting experience, preferably in governmental accounting  

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
  1. Maintains a continually updated working knowledge of School Board Policy, Financial Accountability System Resource Guide, administrative regulations, Texas Education Code and other legal requirements that relate to school business operation.
  2. Prepare monthly bank reconciliations for all District-held checking and investment accounts, research, reconcile items and prepare adjusting entries, as required.
  3. Track and maintain cash balances and prepare daily cash balance report.
  4. Process stop payment requests.
  5. Assist in the preparation of annual and/or quarterly investment reports.
  6. Research outstanding checks, prepare unclaimed property reports and submit payments to the Comptroller’s Office, as necessary.
  7. Prepare payroll deduction and/or benefits payments; reconcile payments to the general ledger. Assist Risk Management and Benefits staff as needed.
  8. Prepare, reconcile and submit periodic accounting reports, including but not limited to monthly sales tax reports.
  9. Assist with district activity funds. Process fundraiser requests and review fundraiser recaps for completeness and accuracy. Ensure deposits are posted correctly. Assist in the audit of student activity fund records. In addition, maintain each fundraiser on the districts online store.
  10. Provide activity fund support for campus personnel regarding activity fund questions, concerns, and issues.
  11. Provide formal training with all campus secretaries and bookkeepers regarding compliance with the Activity Fund handbook. Provide follow-up training as necessary throughout the school year.
  12. Reconcile all employee advances to ensure that proper documentation are obtained and expenses are properly documented.
  13. Prepare journal entries to reclass due to assignment account number changes. Ensure adjustments have been captured for all assignment account number changes.
  14. Assist in the processing of property liability claims.
  15. Assist in year-end closing procedures, verify general ledger balances and prepare adjusting entries, as required.
  16. Assist the accounting staff during peak times.
  17. Assist with preparation of monthly financial statements and the annual financial report; prepare schedules for deposits and investments and as well as other schedules and accounting information, as required for the auditors.
  18. Establish and maintain positive attitudes that promote cooperation between staff members and budget managers that will lend support to the goals of the district.
  19. Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
  20. Perform other duties as assigned.
