POSITION:              SCHOOL COUNSELOR
REPORTS TO:        PRINCIPAL

SALARY RANGE:  $55,050-$69,883 annually

LOCATION:             GATEWAY COLLEGE PREPARATORY SCHOOL, GEORGETOWN TEXAS  

POSITION SUMMARY:
Work with school faculty and staff, students, parents, and community to plan, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive developmental guidance and counseling program at Gateway College Preparatory
School. Counsel students to fully develop each student's academic, career, personal, and social abilities
and address the needs of special population students.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide counseling to students as needed to support an emotionally safe and supportive learning
  • environment.
  • Provide counseling as a related service to special education students including completing formal
  • evaluations and periodic IEP progress reports, and attending ARD meetings.
  • Make referrals to outside agencies as needed.
  • Document student needs and suggest related services as appropriate.
  • Provide teachers with resources and support for appropriately managing student behaviors.
  • Assist with implementation of a school-wide anti-bullying and character education programs.
  • Promotes and contributes to campus-wide initiatives.
  • Consult with school staff, parents, and other community members to increase student
  • effectiveness and promote student success.
  • Deliver classroom guidance, group guidance and serve as a consultant to teachers.
  • Support and participate in meeting the objectives of the campus/department improvement plans.
  • Protects confidentiality of students and their families.
  • Support the mission and vision of the campus and district.
  • Adheres to policies and procedures of the campus and district.
  • Comply with policies established by federal and state law, including but not limited to State Board
  • of Education and local Board policy.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
 
REQUIREMENTS: 
  • Master's degree in counseling from accredited college or university and valid Texas Counseling Certificate.
  • Counseling procedures, intervention strategies and student appraisal systems
  • Two years of school counseling or classroom teaching experience required

  WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Duties involve walking, sitting, standing, in-door, and out-of-door activities and some lifting.
  • Must have and maintain a level of general physical/emotional health which permits effective performance of duties.
  • Regularly lifts and carries 1 - 25 pounds.
  • Required high level of mental alertness and requires ability to tolerate high levels of stress.
