GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Provide assistance to the participating students in the Upward Bound Program, as appropriate in the areas of tutoring, testing, referrals, financial aid, and career and counseling. This position receives general direction from the Project Director of Upward Bound and exercises no supervision. NOTE: This is a security sensitive position and an appropriate background investigation will be made on applicants being strongly considered for this position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Master’s degree from an accredited college or university
Experience: More than one year of work experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience: Professional experience in academic, career or personal counseling setting, and/or higher education setting.
SELECTION CRITERIA:

Knowledge of:1. Academic and career counseling techniques, methods, & procedures. 2. Specific needs of special student population as assigned. 3. General educational systems and requirements. 4. College policies and procedures regarding admission standards and educational program requirements. 5. Program requirements related to assigned area of responsibility. Skills in: 6. Use of computer software (i.e. Microsoft Office & PowerPoint). Ability to: 7. Provide support, guidance and direction to students, academically. 8. Determine specific needs of individual students and provide appropriate support/referrals. 9. Advise students regarding information to achieve individual long-term career goals. 10. Communicate clearly & concisely, both orally and in writing. 11. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships. 12. Interpret transcripts and standardized test scores. 13. Analyze problems, identify solutions, project consequences of proposed actions and implement recommendations in support of goals. 14. Maintain lines of communication with students, faculty, and other trip project directors, institutions, community colleges and community service agencies. 15. Maintain knowledge of federal regulations governing UB/TRIO programs.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Sedentary-Desk work; occasional field trips e.g. for college or program activities. Minimal Hazard/Exposure-Standard office setting. At least minimal environmental controls are in place to assure health and comfort.
