Job Title:  Educational Diagnostician    Start Date:  January 2025 

Reports to:  Director of Special Programs/Campus Administrators    Pay Scale:  CISD Scale (180 day contract) 

Primary Role:
Assess the educational, learning styles and program needs of students referred to special education services. Work cooperatively with instructional personnel to provide the most appropriate instructional programs for students with disabilities.

Education/Certification: 
  • Master’s degree in educational assessment
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate
  • Valid Texas educational diagnostician certificate
  • Knowledge of current diagnostic procedures, special education laws/regulations, special education settings/language, human development, and learning theories
  • Experience with the software used for assessments, FIEs, and ARDs
  • Excellent organizational skills; specifically, regarding timelines and scheduling
  • Exceptionally effective communication and interpersonal skills

Experience:
  • Three years teaching experience
 
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Assess the educational, learning styles, and program needs of students referred to special education services.
  • Work cooperatively with instructional personnel to provide the most appropriate instructional programs for students with disabilities.
  • Ability to accurately interpret data, write succinct and thorough diagnostic reports.
  • Select and administer formal and informal assessments to determine student eligibility for special education services according to federal and Texas Education Agency regulations
  • Compile and evaluate comprehensive student information including classroom observations; personal interviews with the student, teachers(s), parents, and others as well as relevant assessment data from student’s cumulative folder and other resources.
  • Consult with parents and teachers regarding the educational needs of students and interpretation of assessment data.
  • Coordinate the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee meetings.
  • Comply with the interpretation of assessment data, appropriate placement, development of Individual Education Plans (IEP), and all relevant decisions according to state, federal, and district procedures.
  • Collaborate with the assessment team, campus administration, teachers, and parents through effective, professional communication.
  • Present staff development training in assigned schools to assist school personnel in identifying and understanding information regarding students with disabilities.
  • Support classroom teachers’ understanding of the implementation of IEPs.
  • Program Management.
  • Participate in the selection of assessment materials and equipment.
  • Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of the assessment program and recommend changes based on findings.
  • Compile, maintain, and file reports, records, and other documents required for students on your caseload.
  • Meet all timelines associated with assessments and ARD meetings as well as all elements of relevant State Performance Plan (SPP) indicators.
  • Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy.
  • Comply with all district and local campus routines and regulations.

  • Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals and other instructional equipment
  • Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling and twisting
  • Motion: Frequent walking
  • Lifting: May require regular heavy lifting (45 pounds or more) and positioning of students with physical disabilities, control behavior through physical restraint, assist nonambulatory students and lift and move adaptive equipment; may work prolonged or irregular hours
  • Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress
