Primary Purpose:
Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the core academic subject area assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society. 
Provide special education students with learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their
potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Develop or modify curricula and prepare lessons
and other instructional materials to student ability levels. Work in self-contained, team, departmental, or itinerant
capacity as assigned.

Qualifications:
Education/Certification: Pre - K /ESL Preferred
Bachelor’s degree from accredited university 
Valid Texas teaching certificate with required special education endorsements for assignments
Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or training for subject and level assigned
Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned
[Physical Education Teachers: Current automated external defibrillator (AED) certificate]

Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of core academic subject assigned
Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills 
Knowledge of special needs of students in assigned area
Knowledge of Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process and Individual Education Plan (IEP)
goal setting process and implementation
General knowledge of curriculum and instruction 

 Physical Requirements
Teacher will be required to lift students from standing, sitting, and/or stretched out positions.
Teacher may be required to lift students while sitting in a flat position.
Teacher may be required to lift students from a wheelchair.
Teacher may be required to lift students when addressing diapering needs.
Teacher may be required to assist students with special feeding needs.
Teacher may be required to manipulate assistive equipment ranging from 20 to 40 pounds in weight.
Teacher will be expected to kneel, bend, and or squat throughout the school day when addressing students’ needs. 
 
Experience:
One year student teaching or approved internship
