JOB TITLE: Speech Language Pathologist           
WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Exempt
REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education/Principal
PAY GRADE / DAYS: 2 / 197 Days

PRIMARY PURPOSE:
 
Plan and provide direct therapy to students with articulation, fluency, voice, or language disorders.  Assess students and provide therapeutic intervention to eliminate or reduce problems or impairments which interfere with students' ability to derive full benefit from the educational program.
  
QUALIFICATIONS:
 
Education/Certification:
Master's degree in speech-language pathology
Valid Texas license as a speech language pathologist granted by the Texas Board of                     Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology
Certificate of Clinical Competence granted by the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (preferred)
 
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Skill in the use of tests and measurements for assessing speech-language disorders
Knowledge of evaluation, habilitation, and rehabilitation of speech, language and hearing          disorders
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to travel to multiple work locations as assigned
 
Experience:
One year of supervised clinical speech language pathology experience
 
 
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
 
1.         Assess students with speech or language disorders and determine eligibility for services.
 
2.         Plan and provide appropriate individual and group therapy to students consistent with speech and language goals contained in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
 
3.         Participate in the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee regarding interpretation of assessment data, appropriate placement, and goal setting for students with speech or language disorders according to district procedures.
 
4.         Evaluate student progress and determine readiness for termination of therapy services.
  
5.         Counsel and involve parents in the remedial process.
 
6.         Collaborate with classroom teachers to plan and implement classroom-based activities to improve oral and written language skills of students.
 
7.         Provide staff development training in assigned schools to assist school personnel in the identification and understanding of students with communication deficits.
 
8.         Participate in Response to Intervention (Rtl) program for students with suspected speech and language delays or disorders.
 
9.         Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
 
10.       Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy.
 
11.        Comply with all district and local campus routines and regulations.
 
12.        Effectively communicate with colleagues, students, and parents regarding the accomplishment of therapy goals and needs of the student.
 
13.        Assist in the selection of instructional materials and equipment.
 
14.        Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
 
15.        Manage student behavior and administer discipline in accordance with board polices, administrative regulations, and IEP.
 
16.        Attend team/department meetings as requested/scheduled.
 
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
Direct and monitor the work of speech therapy aide or CFY(Intern)

Regular districtwide travel; moderate lifting and carrying.
