Primary Purpose: Plan and provide a full range of service to students who have a special education eligibility as Auditory Impaired, interpret results of reports from physicians required for eligibility, complete assessments/evaluations, and make recommendations to the ARD committee. Be proficient in continuum of services available to students with and Auditory Impairment including appropriate assistive technology. Complete compliance reports regarding AI students.
 
Qualifications: Valid TX license as a Teacher of the Auditory Impaired.
 
Special Knowledge/Skills:
1. Skill in the interpretation of information provided by a licensed audiologist and/or ENT.
2. Skill in the administration of the hearing evaluation and the appropriate supplements.
3. Understanding of federal and state regulations regarding special education eligibility for auditory impairment.
4. Ability to make recommendations to the ARD Committee regarding student eligibility for special education.
5. Ability to make instructional recommendations for students with auditory impairments.
6. Ability to provide the student with direct instruction related to student’s auditory impairment.
7. Ability to assist teachers with accommodations and adaptations for students with hearing impairments.
8. Ability to travel to multiple work locations within the District.
 
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Interpret medical reports and complete assessments leading to recommendations regarding special education eligibility as a student with a visual impairment.
2. Interpret implications of medical reports & assessments as they relate to student learning, and recommendations if they do not meet criteria for an AI eligibility but do have some hearing loss.
3. Develop goals & objectives for ARD committee consideration.
4. Make recommendations to ARD committee regarding service decisions for eligible students.
5. Provide service, both direct & consult to eligible students from birth to 22 and ESY/Summer services as appropriate.
6.  Monitor progress, keep service logs, complete Progress Reports for all AI eligible students.
7. Counsel & involve parents in the decision-making & learning process.
8. Collaborate with classroom teachers regarding accommodations & adaptations.
9. Assist in the selection of instructional materials and assistive technology devices.
10. Provide staff development to groups or individuals regarding students with auditory impairments.
11. Effectively communicate with colleagues, students, parents and supervisors regarding student goals and program needs.
12. Compile, maintain and file or submit all reports and other documents involved.
13. Serve as district liaison between RDSPD, MHMR, State School for the Deaf, and other community resources for students with auditory impairments.
14. Comply with all district and special education routines and procedures. Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education, Commissioner’s Rules, and local Board policy.
15. Other duties as assigned.
 
WORKING CONDITIONS: Mental Demands: Ability to communicate (verbal and written); provide instruction; and maintain emotional control under stress. Physical Demand/Environmental Factors: Regular districtwide travel; moderate lifting and carrying.
