PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Direct and manage the overall program of extracurricular and intramural athletics for the district. This individual also provides each student with the opportunity to participate in an extracurricular athletic activity and ensures compliance with all federal, state, University Interscholastic League (UIL), and local requirements. The Athletic Director will innovate and redefine Athletics in Copperas Cove ISD (including redefining Assistant Director and Athletic Coordinators’ roles pertaining to scheduling, middle school to high school progression, professional learning, monitoring and feedback) in order to strengthen the current model to encompass a 6th – 12th grade aligned District athletic program.
 
Qualifications: 
 
Education and Certification Requirements
Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Education, Kinesiology, or related field preferred
Certification/License: Valid Texas teaching certificate; Certified Athletic Administrator preferred
 
Knowledge and Skills
Strong leadership skills
Strong communication, public relations and interpersonal skills
Knowledge of state, UIL, and TEA policies governing athletic activities
Ability to interpret policy, procedures and data
Demonstrate ability to successfully organize, manage, promote and instruct a high school athletics 
program
Ability to manage personnel and budgets within the athletic department and feeder patterns
 
Experience
Five (5) years of successful teaching and coaching experience
Three (3) years of experience as a Head Coach in at least two sports preferred
 
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Implement the policies and directives of the superintendent, school board, TEA, and UIL.
Direct the campus and feeder pattern middle school athletic programs in cooperation with the assistant superintendent, director of student programs, and principals.
Schedule all contests in cooperation with head coaches and principals.
Verify each athlete’s eligibility.
Evaluate job performance of athletic personnel.
Develop and maintain a positive relationship between the athletic staff and the school personnel.
Assign coaching duties.
Work with human resources and principals in interviewing and selecting coaching staff.
Participate in professional development, and encourage professional development for staff.
Establish and maintain effective communication with staff, parents, and students.
Prepare and administer the athletic budget.
Make travel arrangements for athletic events in cooperation with head coaches and principals.
Coordinate and supervise the use of athletic facilities.
Work with the athletic training staff to ensure the physical welfare of all athletic participants.
Plan, organize, and supervise all athletic awards programs.
Provide for care and replacement of athletic equipment.
Monitor booster club activities in accordance with UIL and Copperas Cove ISD guidelines.
Perform other duties as assigned.
