General Responsibilities:

Essential Functions:

  1. Must be able to communicate effectively to individuals/groups in both verbal and written form. ex: coworkers, clients, the public, and suppliers/vendors.

  4. Assist in implementing the day-to-day functions of the accounting/finance department
  5. Implement policies and procedures that govern the accounting/finance function of the organization
  6. Assist in standardizing the methods in which accounting work will be accomplished
  7. Maintain general ledger(s) and books of original entry on the accrual basis. Reconcile bank statements to the respective general ledger control account balance(s)
  8. Prepare monthly financial statements including balance sheet(s), income and expense reports, trial balances and other reports as directed on a timely basis to meet funding source and board of directors’ reporting requirements. Prepare written financial and statistical reports as directed including monthly analysis of accounts, supporting calculations for journal entries, etc. for permanent filing purposes for each respective general ledger assigned.
  9. Assist in the planning and implementation of changes in the accounting system as necessary or directed
  10. Ensure that an adequate supply of accounting supplies and equipment are on hand to meet the day-to-day operational needs of the department, reporting equipment or office supply needs to the Assistant Controller or designee.
  11. Must be knowledgeable of principles of governmental accounting, including budgeting, cost reporting, taxation, etc. Must possess the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies and procedures that are necessary for providing sound accounting techniques
  12. Coordinate the collection of all data required for PEIMS submissions according to PEIMS Data Standards and Student Attendance Accounting Handbook. Work with campus staff to collect, organize, and format data required to submit district PEIMS data in a timely manner.
  13. Establish reporting timelines between the Waco Charter School campus and the Charter School Finance office.
  14. Run edits, reports, and verification checks on data to ensure accuracy of information. Distribute edits and reports to appropriate staff for analysis, verification, and correction.
  15. Submit complete and accurate PEIMS data in Texas Education Agency (TEA) prescribed format to Education Service Center – Region 12 (ESC) for processing. Verify data submitted to TEA and submit corrections in a timely manner.
  16. Attend all regional PEIMS workshops and disseminate information to appropriate staff.
  17. Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
  18. Other duties as assigned.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment with ambient lighting, and climate control. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Demands

  1. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  2. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. This would require the ability to lift files up to 40 pounds, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.
Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Must be able to pass Criminal History check.
  2. A valid Texas driver’s license is required.
  3. Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with a major in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  4. Three (3) years’ experience in double-entry bookkeeping or accounting practices
  5. Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word, on an intermediate to advanced level
 

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in governmental contract/grant accounting and School Finance

 

Travel:

Ability to travel when required.

Perform all other duties as deemed necessary.

 

Work Schedule: 

This is a full-time position. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
