Qualifications:           
Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or required training for subject and level assigned
Demonstrated competency in behavioral theory, classroom management, and positive behavior interventions and supports. 

Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of research-based behavior programs, social skills curriculum, and interventions
Experience in developing and implementing effective behavior intervention plans:

Functional behavior assessment
   Observational and interviewing skills
  • Research-based models and programs
  • Social-emotional skills curriculum
  • Experience in the Positive Approach to Student Success (PASS) model preferred
  • General knowledge of academic curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to effectively instruct students in social-emotional skills and manage their behavior
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

  • Major Responsibilities and Duties:
  •  

  1. Provide a program of individualized behavior instruction and management for assigned students with very challenging behaviors (Tier III) using the PASS model: 
    1. Collaborate with Student Assistance Team and classroom teachers to determine goals, objectives, and methods. 
    2. Document student Behavior Support Plans and PASS Portfolios in the district’s MTSS system.
    3. Evaluate student progress based on behavior data collection, making adjustments as needed. 
    4. Establish frequent communication with students’ families.

  2. Consult campus-wide behavior intervention programs and social-emotional instruction for Tier II and III students using research-based interventions and curriculum.

  4. Supervise daily schedule and duties of assigned behavior paraprofessional(s).
  5.  
  6. Ensure that general education teachers have knowledge of classroom behavior interventions, campus behavior supports, and PASS. 
  7.  
  8. Serve as a member of the assigned campus Behavior Leadership Teams to provide expertise and assistance in implementation of the district’s MTSS-Behavior process.  
  9.  
  10. Assist the campus Student Assistance Team with development and implementation of classroom and campus behavior interventions to fulfill the requirements of the district’s MTSS-Behavior process.
    1. For Tier II students, recommend classroom and campus interventions to help address behavior problems. 
    2. For Tier III students, prepare the initial draft of the student Behavior Support Plan with observations, teacher/parent interviews, functional behavior assessment, and possible interventions.
    3. For students returning from disciplinary placement, review the student’s transition plan for recommendations and communicate with alternative placement staff if needed.

  11. Maintain confidential records of assigned students and complete end-of year reports and other evaluations.

  13. Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).

  15. Create an environment for PASS program conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.

  17. Follow guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.

  19. Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook. Attend and implement CPI training, with de-escalation techniques a priority in unsafe situations. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

  22. Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.

  24. Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned.  Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.
