Primary Purpose:
To provide direct instructional support for ELLs and immigrant children and youth, based on identified linguistic and academic needs, in an effort to improve learning gains and assist students in achieving in schools in the United States.

Qualifications: 
Education/Certification: 
  • Master’s degree in Education or appropriate area (preferred) 
  • Experience in ESL classroom setting 
  • Experience working with Newcomers and/or Immigrant children and youth 
  • Proficiency with curriculum and data analysis software 

Special Knowledge/Skills: 
  • Knowledge of curriculum and state standards (TEKS) 
  • Knowledge of best practices and interventions in the area of Reading such as Leveled Literacy Instruction (LLI), implementation of Guided Reading as an essential component of the Balanced Literacy Block and the RIGOR (Reading Instructional Goals for Older Students) Intervention 
  • Strong foundational knowledge of the state English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS) 
  • Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Ability to interpret policy, procedures, and data 
  • Ability to coordinate, plan and implement state/district initiatives 
  • Create positive collegial relationships with teachers and administrators 
  • Communicate and demonstrate research-based instructional practices that result in increased student performance 
  • Demonstrate knowledge and monitor the implementation of Proficiency Level Descriptors (PLDs) and ELL progress measures. 

Minimum Experience:
 
  • Three years of ESL classroom experience preferred.
