Primary Purpose:
Encourage and inspire our 4th grade and 5th grade general music students in their next steps beyond elementary music, and foster a love for the musical arts. Provide artistic leadership for and conduct the 6th grade choir classes.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college
Valid Texas teaching certificate in music
Knowledge of overall operation of vocal music program
Ability to manage budget
Ability to implement policy and procedures
Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
One to three years teaching and choir directing experience preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned through the district curriculum and TEKS in music.
Engage students in music reading skills
Through general music classes, spend time introducing children to various musical performers and styles.
Help students learn about creating, performing and listening to music.
Teach students about instruments families: percussion, brass, woodwinds and string instruments.
Use hands-on activities to teach children pitch, rhythm and music notation.
Use the understanding of the developing child’s voice to help young musicians progress vocally.
Provide an introduction to initial instrument playing, through the use of Orff instruments, recorders, ukulele, or other preferred method.
