Primary Purpose:

Communicate, provide information, and represent the district in all media relations, including promoting positive public relations between the district and all constituents. Responsible for internal and external communication. Liaison with city and community agencies. Prepare and provide information to the public about the goals, policies, and activities for the district.

 
Qualifications:
 
Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s degree required in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications, or related field
Successful professional leadership experience in a mid-size to large school district or organization
 
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Demonstrated experience in public relations and marketing
Thorough knowledge of media relations, including skills in technology communications
 
Experience:
A minimum of five years experience in supervision and management of marketing and communications efforts for large organizations, public school districts preferred
 
Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Departmental

  1. Lead, direct, organize, and manage the district’s public information activities.
  2. Serve as the representative and spokesperson between the school system and communication media.
  3. Ensure required postings arePlan and coordinate special events between district staff and community groups as well as special events for employees.
  4. Prepare press releases and publish articles and photographs highlighting district and campus accomplishments and recognitions, including written and electronic text.
  5. Promote and publicize district performances, exhibitions, displays, and special programs.
  6. Design, prepare and edit district publications, including news articles, website postings, newsletters, recruitment information, and other publications.
  7. Serve as the district representative on community committees, as requested.
  8. Assist in the recruitment of staff, including participation in job fairs.
  9. Ensure that public information contributes to the attainment and support of the district’s goals and objectives.
  10. Assist the Superintendent in preparation of materials for speaking engagements and special events.
  11. Assist in the Emergency Operations and Crisis Communications plans for the District.
  12. Assist in planning and implementing special projects, such as annual district-wide convocation, bond election campaigns, groundbreaking ceremonies, retirement, and staff awards and recognition.
  13. Organize and communicate district back-to-school events.
  14. Organize a comprehensive communication structure so that district and campus events are effectively communicated throughout the district and community in a timely manner.
  15. Train staff on customer service initiatives, social media strategies, emergency preparation, and other district initiatives.
  16. Provide events calendar to School Board members.
  17. Speak at civic organizations, as requested.
  18. Initiate communication in anticipation of public questions and concerns.
  19. Administer the Collins Scholarship Program. (Application Process, Check Requests, Board Reports, Scholar Communication, etc.)
  20. Provide guidance, support, and assistance as necessary to the Director of CEF and CEF Board.

Budget and Inventory
22..Compile budgets and cost estimates based on documented program needs.
23.Administer the Communications, Public Relations, and Marketing budget to ensure that programs and communication initiatives are cost-effective.

Personnel Management
24. Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate Communications Department personnel and make sound recommendations relative to personnel placement, transfer, retention, and dismissal.

Other
25. Attend professional growth activities to keep abreast of innovations in assigned areas.
26. Remain current in professional areas through professional meetings, research, and reading to identify trends and practices.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervise and evaluate the performance of all members of the Communications, Public Relations, and Marketing Department.
