PRIMARY PURPOSE:
 
Direct and manage the logistical operations of the Transportation Department to ensure safe, efficient and economical transportation services in support of the mission of the Coppers Cove Independent School District.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
 
Education/Certification:
Bachelor Degree Preferred (Associates Degree or College Hours may be considered)
Valid Texas commercial driver's license (Class B)
Certified Texas vehicle safety inspector
 
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of energy management and vehicle repair and maintenance
Ability to manage personnel
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
 
Experience:
            Five years supervisory experience in transportation operations, preferably in school setting
Five Years  experience as a bus driver
 
 
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
 
1.         Prepare and update bus routes and schedules for all schools in the district.
 
2.         Implement district student management policies and communicate expected student behavior related to transportation programs.
 
3.         Coordinate the vehicle repair operations of all district-owned vehicles and maintain service records.                                                                       
 
4.         Maintain safety standards in conformance with state, federal, and insurance regulations and develop a program of preventive safety.
 
5.         Process vehicle repair requests and assign priority to work orders.
 
6.         Assign work to mechanics and oversee completion.
 
7.         Perform safety inspections for all district vehicles.
 
8.         Order and receive fuel; record usage.
 
9.         Maintain an inventory of supplies and parts.
 
10.       Operate vehicles, tools, and equipment according to prescribed safety procedures.
 
11.       Handle and dispose of hazardous chemicals according to prescribed procedures.
 
12.       Compile, maintain, file, and present all reports, records, and other documents required.
 
13.       Recruit, train, and supervise all transportation personnel and make sound recommendations relative to placement, assignment, retention, discipline, and dismissal.
 
14.       Evaluate job performance of employees to ensure effectiveness.
 
15.       Develop training options and improvement plans to ensure the best operation in the area of transportation.
 
16.       Respond to after-hours emergency calls as needed; operate bus and deliver buses to drivers when breakdowns occur.
 
 
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
Supervise and evaluate the performance of bus drivers, bus aides, mechanics, and secretaries.

Frequent districtwide travel; frequent prolonged and irregular hours; ability to conduct on-site inspections of all vehicle repair and maintenance operations and operate motor vehicle.
