JOB TITLE: Speech Language Pathology Assistant          
WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Exempt
REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education/Principal/Supervising Speech
Language Pathologist

PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Plan and provide direct therapy to students with articulation, fluency, voice, or language disorders. Provide therapeutic intervention to eliminate or reduce problems or impairments which interfere with students' ability to derive full benefit from the educational program.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor's degree
Valid Texas license as an Assistant Speech Language Pathologist granted by the Texas Board of      Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology


Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of habilitation and rehabilitation of speech, language and hearing disorders
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills 
Knowledge of materials and therapy techniques
Ability to travel to multiple work locations as assigned

Experience:
Experience in a school setting preferred, but not required

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
1.         Provide appropriate individual and group therapy to students consistent with speech and language goals contained in Individual Education Plans (IEP) as planned by the supervising speech language pathologist.
3.         Participate in annual Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee according to supervisory regulations. 
4.         Collaborate with classroom teachers to improve classroom-based activities to improve oral and written language skills of students.
5.         Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
6.         Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy.
7.         Comply with all district and local campus routines and regulations. 
8.          Comply with all regulations and timelines related to Special Education state and federal guidelines. 
9.           Comply with district procedure regarding student data management to include but not limited to maintaining accurate eSPED and SHARS entries.  
8.         Effectively communicate with supervising Speech Language Pathologist regarding the progress of therapy goals and needs of the student.
9.         Assist in the selection of instructional materials and equipment.
10.        Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
11.        Manage student behavior and administer discipline in accordance with board polices, administrative regulations, and IEP.
12.        Follow supervision responsibilities as required by the Texas State Board of Examiners.
13.        Keep license current.
14.        Participate in team meetings and inservices
15.        Participate with Response to Intervention (Rtl) as directed by supervising Speech Language Pathologist

Direct and monitor the work of speech therapy aide
