JOB TITLE:      Instructional Coach  
WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Exempt 
REPORTS TO:  Director of Curriculum & Instruction/Campus Principal

PRIMARY PURPOSE: 
  
The Instructional Coach will assist the Campus Principal and the Director of Curriculum and Instruction in providing oversight for the effective implementation of district-wide curriculum on CCISD campuses.  The Instructional Coach will monitor program implementation, mentor/coach teachers, provide staff development, model effective instruction utilizing best practice instructional strategies, monitor the implementation of the scope and sequence of curriculum guides, and facilitate data analysis. The Instructional Coach will also serve as an important link in the communication loop between teachers, principals, and the Director of Curriculum and Instruction. 
  
Qualifications: 
A certified teacher who has expertise in curriculum assessment, instructional delivery and staff development.  The IC must possess (1) a deep understanding of the scientific research base for instruction and (2) extensive knowledge of program components and teaching experience with one or more mandated content areas.  The IC is knowledgeable about the appropriate use of assessment and intervention strategies for struggling students.  
  
Minimum Education/Certification: 
Valid Teaching Certificate 
Three years experience as a classroom teacher 
  
Special Knowledge/Skills: 
Knowledge of curriculum and instruction 
Knowledge of current educational research in the use of technology to enhance instruction, 
learning styles, teaching techniques and student engagement 
Possesses fluency with multiple methods of instructional delivery and student assessment 
Ability to evaluate the instructional program and teaching effectiveness 
Ability to disaggregate data and facilitate data discussions 
Strong communication and interpersonal skills 
Working knowledge of computers and educational software 
  
  
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: 
  
CURRICULUM 
  
  • Establishes and monitors curricular scope and sequenceServes as a resource in identifying appropriate instructional strategies and interventions to improve student achievement for all students.  
  • Assists teachers in preparation for best practice classroom instruction.
  • Assists teachers in building an interactive classroom environment focused on the delivery of the core curriculum, to include the use of technology in the teaching-learning process.
  • Demonstrates lessons for teachers to model best instructional practices and ensure the fidelity of specific program implementation and intervention support.
  • Provides updates to ensure that all are knowledgeable about student achievement progress, program components, TEKS and diagnostic/progress monitoring tools.
  • Implements policy established by federal and state law, SBOE rule and local board policy related to curriculum and instruction. 
  
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: 
  
  • Provides timely, data-driven staff development to guide classroom instruction.
  • Provides district–wide staff development in response to needs identified through data analysis.
  • Participates in professional development opportunities to remain current on trends and best practices in education. 
  
DATA: 
  
  • Assists principal and grade/department chairs in the analysis of assessments and the setting of both short term and long term instructional goals.
  • Facilitates collaborative meetings with district and campus stakeholders to help analyze and utilize data from a variety of sources to improve student achievement.
  • Assists the Director of Curriculum and Instruction in the development and revision of curriculum based benchmarks and other district assessments based on data from a variety of sources.
  • Compiles, maintains, and files all reports, records and documents as required.
  • Facilitates the evaluation of programs.

Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); interpret policy procedures and data; coordinate campus instructional functions; and maintain emotional control under stress. 
  
Physical Demands: 
  
Frequent districtwide, campus and occasional statewide travel; prolonged and irregular hours.  Ability carry and move up to 30 pounds.
