Job Title: General Maintenance Tech                            
 
Wage/Hour Status: Non-Exempt

Primary Purpose:
Under general supervision, perform skilled work in construction, alterations, repairs, and installations of fixtures, building furnishings, and general plumbing, electrical, and HVAC throughout the district’s property. Maintain the district’s structures and furnishings to the highest operational and safe conditions.
 
Qualifications:
 
Education/Certification:
High school diploma or GED certificate
Valid Texas driver’s license (class C)
 
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of equipment, materials, methods, practices, and tools
Ability to follow oral and written instructions and the ability to communicate effectively
Ability to use hand and power tools
Ability to work independently or in a team setting
Ability to work from an aerial lift and/or use ladders of all types & sizes
 
Experience:
Three (3) years experience as a general maintenance tech (preferred)
 
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
 
Maintenance and Repair
 
Fabricate, repair, and replace door hardware, floor & ceiling materials, and other building materials
 
Construct and repair outdoor equipment including playground equipment, fences, gates, bleachers, etc.
 
Receive and complete work orders.
 
Maintain inventory of district-owned tools, equipment and materials.
 
Respond to emergency calls as needed.
 
 
Safety
Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment
 
Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
 
Ensure that equipment is in safe operating condition
 
Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.
 
Correct unsafe conditions in the work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to the supervisor immediately.
 
Perform other duties as assigned.
 
Equipment Used:
Ability to use power tools of all types, other power equipment, general carpentry tools, and operate safely a small tractor.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Maintain emotional control under stress. Typical school atmosphere. Frequent interruptions. Strenuous standing, stooping, walking, climbing ladders, bending, pushing, and pulling, must be physically fit and able to lift and carry items weighing up to 75 pounds. Working indoors, outdoors, in extreme temperatures including hot and cold temperature swings, inclement weather, working with chemicals, exposure to dust, and slippery or uneven walking surfaces.
